I placed a tribute to Donnie in The Georgia Post, the local newspaper in Roberta, Georgia where we went to high school. A few stories have started to come in from people that saw the tribute. I hope to have more in the near future.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Donnie's death. The saying is so true that the older you get, the quicker the years fly by. There are so many memories that never got made due to Donnie's untimely death. I really regret that my kids never got a chance to know him.

I have continued to touch up the site, add photos and investigate working with charitable and community organizations. I have also met with an accountant to better understand any legal or tax issues involved. I am finalizing some of these issues and hope to start promoting the site soon.

The site is really coming together nicely. I now have the online contributions up and running. I am using PayPal to handle the contribution transactions on a secure site. Contributions can be made via PayPal or a credit card. Now that the site is about complete, I will be contacting the charities to determine their level of interest.
I have also included a form for those who knew my brother to enter in their contact information and any stories that come to mind. I really hope to hear from some old friends this way.

I am really excited today. I have the site about 90% finished and am declaring today as the official launch day of A Million Dollar Memorial. I have set my goal to raise $1,000,000 in the next six months, with the final day coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Donnie's death. I have the memorial part up and running with some photo galleries of Donnie. Because our house was totally destroyed in the fire, we only have a limited number of pictures. I am trying to find more.
I will be contacting numerous charities in the coming weeks to see if I can get them on board with this idea. I have decided to donate the net contributions to ten charities, after paying applicable taxes and operating expenses and making a 10% contribution to a charity or charities of my choice.

Preparing to Launch A Million Dollar Memorial |

After much thought and groundwork, I am preparing to launch A Million Dollar Memorial. The intent is to create a tribute to my brother in an online memorial and raise some funds for some worthwhile charities. I will post details on how it all works on the launch date, February 8th, 2006.
